How have you got libungif.so in /usr/local??? It is not vanilla RedHat.
It seems the problem is in your libungif library. I use
libungif-devel-4.1.0-2.i386.rpm from RH 6.1 and I have no such problem.

However, I had problems with libpng-1.0.3-4, so I had to upgrade to
1.0.5. Updated spec and patch for libpng-1.0.5 is available on
http://ern.kit.vslib.cz/linux/.
