since we are working on the internal data structures here, we can also
invest some time in working on implementing scoping -- and also by
implementing "styles" as functions rather than macros as they are done
now (that would only affect the internal representation of course).

It shouldn't take long, but we will only do that if there is interest
in integrating it in the "official" source tree, there is no point in
having too diverging versions of the code.

(btw our mgpm version at http://www.iet.unipi.it/~luigi/mgpm/
includes among other things a slightly different user interface to make
more commands accessible through the mouse/pen only, an "eraser",
and (still experimental) text-entry commands.

If you can try it (don't need to use the multicast part if you
don't want), I'd be interested in receiving feedback on these
modifications, if they are considered useful or
