IP traceback WG
Welcome to the IP traceback WG's web site.
Background
Accountability of end-to-end communications are at risk with IP spoofing, reflection attacks and MAC address spoofing. IP traceback WG has been created in order to tackle the problem and establish accountability in stepwise manner.
Chair
Masafumi Oe (NAOJ) and Youki Kadobayashi (NAIST).
Goals and milestones
Our goal is to come up with a realistic solution to the accountability problem in the TCP/IP protocol suite. Our sub-goals include mechanisms for L3 traceback, as well as countermeasures for L2 spoofing attacks and reflection attacks.
We are currently working on hierarchical IP traceback architecture and a L2 traceback mechanism. By the end of April 2002, we will make some of our software implementations available. Protocol specifications may be submitted to IETF as individual draft, as we do not have corresponding active WGs at IETF.
Caveats
By nature of WIDE project, we are multi-instutional aggregation of research groups; the goals and opinions expressed here may not include activities conducted by member institutions. Contact us for more up-to-date information.
