OK, I don't type very well:
I meant
/usr/local/magicpoint-1.07a/sample/default.mgp
file (where /usr/local is where i decided to compile the program)
and not defult.mgp....
xfont is a type of font, the fonts supported by X.
To make mgp work well you need scalable fonts: for instance TTF fonts
(format comon in Micro$oft world)
or Type 1 fonts, format common in X11.
You can find type1 fonts and instruction to install them on:
http://www.gimp.org/fonts.html
Note that now you can use also TTF fonts with Linux with a TTF Font
server.....
